BEST SCENIC DRIVE ★
Winner: High Point State Park
Route 23, Sussex County http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/highpoint.html

What better scenic drive than the one to the state’s highest elevation? There are several ways to get there; the most direct is Route 23 north from Sussex Borough, the road gradually climbing higher as you approach the New York and Pennsylvania borders. You can do a lot in the park — hike (the Appalachian Trail is nearby), swim, fish, boat, even stay overnight in tents or cabins. It’s that other New Jersey, the one not populated by chemical plants and strip malls. It’s a land of rolling hills and stunning vistas, the best of which can be found at the High Point monument, 1,803 feet above sea level. The view is breathtaking, almost otherworldly — the Poconos to the west, the Catskills to the north and the Walkill River Valley to the southeast. The park is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily. There are interpretive and educational programs year-round, with nature hikes and talks. If you’ve never taken this ride, you really haven’t seen Jersey.

2014: Out of Afgh.

Allies plan to leave Afghanistan by 2014.

The strategy sits for now on a table in a locked-down Afghan capital: Hand over security in all 34 provinces to the government by the end of 2014 — more than three years after President Barack Obama’s date for the start of an American troop draw down. (msnbc)

“Some CIA operators are concerned that, because of the blow back from drone strikes effect, it is doing more harm than good,” said Jeffrey Addicott, former legal adviser to U.S. Special Forces and director of the Centre for Terrorism Law at St Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, in an interview with IPS. […] Because the drone strikes kill innocent civilians and bystanders along with leaders from far away, they “infuriate the Muslim male”, said Addicott, thus making them more willing to join the movement. The men in Pakistan’s tribal region “view Americans as cowards and weasels”, he added. […] The complaints by CIA operatives about the drone strikes’ blow back effect reported by Addicott are identical to warnings by military and intelligence officials reported in April 2009 by Jonathan Landay of McClatchy newspapers. Landay quoted an intelligence official with deep involvement in both Afghanistan & Pakistan as saying al Qaeda & the Taliban had used the strikes in propaganda to “portray Americans as cowards who are afraid to face their enemies and risk death”.

Wed. Baseball

Hello. Trip to Fort Indian Town Gap (aka: Fig) in Annville Pa., was unique; I took the doors off the Hmmvee and drove over 70 miles per hour for 40 some miles of the 120 mile trip from the Unit to Fig.

We got done early at a little after 14:00, showered, and thought, “hey I can either stay here and watch ESPN’s Wed. Nite Baseball, or, take Sgt. Baretto’s 15 passenger van to Lancaster Pennsylvania. Go to Lancaster Pennsylvania to go to Clipper Magazine Stadium to see their Lancaster Barn Stormers play the visiting Bridgeport Connecticut Blue Fish.

I have 2nd row seats next to the home dug out. I must watch out for balls to the face. I must watch out for ‘foul balls’ to this section.

(18:13) I shall now enjoy the sun.
(18:24) I’m back.

(18:27) I notice all the fat people co-mingling around my seating area. 2 of the ‘tons of fun’ are holding identical cameras. Identical to each others and sadly my camera as well. I guess now I know what will happen to me if I continue to use Nikon…

(19:53) A lot more double plays here than in Newark. Pitches range from 80-87 mph. Fastest pitch I can recall was 92 mph from the opposing pitcher. I don’t know what we had in Newark.

(20:30) Top of 7th.
Bridgeport: 2
Lancaster: 1

Tony would usually call this a ‘pitcher’s duel’. I would counter, ‘no, they’re just both bad’.

(20:52) Bot 8th
Bri: 2
Lan: 1
I miss Mom. This Baseball thing is very interesting to me. It makes me question my identity as a proud vocal opponent of my Gov’t’s historic bullshit treatment of most others, but somehow I still am proud to be an American; because I’m *allowed* to voice those views without being shot or in any other danger. Hmmm…

(21:00)
Ok this game should end so I can get back to base. Relatively early. Want to shower again and go to sleep post Salaat. Tony must’ve stopped reading a while ago. Minhaj is making ‘that face’ again.

(21:02)

Home team got 2 men on in bottom of 9th. 5th hitter: out on strikes.

Bridgeport: 2
Lancaster: 1
(Final Score)

(21:22)

Going to Fig. Have van parked across 3 spaces!

Good day or night Boys.
Long live Baseball, and good people to enjoy it with. 🙂

Can’t sleep

End of month. Makes me re-evaluate a lot. I’ve cut my Twitter follows, and will cull my FaceBook friends list once more. Farhaj dot com News service is leaner, and sending less to the masses. I like it like that. If you want to ever subscribe, just send a text with SUB to 9082083831 . Its free. Baseball tomorrow, don’t feel like playing though, but hope to catch an Independent League game in Newark though. Yes. I’ll let my Blog know 🙂 GoodNight World.
